Goals

In light of the various activities connected with nautical tourism, this conference seeks to debate the following topics:
  • a) Nautical Tourism - Strategy and Development:
  • Includes a debate on the perspectives for developing nautical tourism in Portugal within the framework of the National Strategic Tourism Plan and the presentation and discussion of the methodology, results and strategic lines of the study on the “Profile and Economic and Social Potential of Nautical Tourism in the Algarve”;
  • b) The Course of Nautical Tourism: Services and Infrastructure:
  • As the current and future gains of nautical tourism as a business area and economic/social benefit for the regions intensify, the integrated provision of services in the sector and the availability of quality infrastructure are today fundamental elements in the value chain, and the debate will seek to cover examples of good practice;
  • c) The Role of Events in Nautical Tourism:
  • Nowadays, events are acknowledged as being an important attraction factor for many regions and lands. Alongside careful structuring and nautical market analysis, events also constitute a means of demonstrating a territory’s energy and drive, with direct or indirect effects on the local economy and the projection of the destination’s image;
  • d) How to Gain Maximum Benefit from the Cruise Business:
  • The Cruise Industry is currently going through a boom period with over 40 new ships currently being built, 34 of which have been ordered by the 4 main cruise lines. This equates to an average delivery of one new ship every 42 days until the year 2012. Whilst this growth constitutes a major business opportunity for the ports, it also requires considerable adaptation both in terms of port infrastructure and destinations.
